A.J. Green wants to stay with Bengals for the rest of his career
Through his first eight years in the league with the Cincinnati Bengals, star wide receiver A.J. Green has been a key fixture for the franchise.
However, there have been questions arising about his long-term future with the team as he’s entering the final year of his four-year, $60 million deal with the Bengals. In response to that, Green has voiced to Adam Schefter of ESPN much uncertainty about what lies ahead of him with the organization.
“I don’t know,” Green told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “I love the Bengals, I’d love to be a part of the organization for the rest of my career but you never know. I just take each year at a time, and go out there and play and get healthy and go from there.”
“It’s hard. This is a place I’ve been for the last eight years going on nine years now. So it’s hard for me to see myself somewhere else because I have a family here. You just never know, like I said, I can’t control that. Something may get done something might not get done.”
Green has voiced in the past his strong desire to stay with the team for the long haul. He has been a key fixture in the offense as their primary offensive weapon in the passing game.
Up through this point in his career, he has racked up seven Pro Bowl nods and two Second-Team All-Pro nods. Green has also tallied 602 receptions for 8,906 receiving yards for 63 receiving touchdowns. He has recorded six 1,000 receiving yard campaigns and three double-digit receiving touchdowns.
Green has dealt with injuries over the last couple of years, but he has more than proved that he’s deserving of a long-term lucrative contract with the Bengals. It may just be a matter of time before both sides work an extension in order to avoid him entering free agency.
