Adrian Peterson wants to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys

The Adrian Peterson saga continues with the superstar running back’s future very much up in the air. Peterson has played his entire NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, but it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that he’ll be headed elsewhere during the offseason.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, Peterson wants to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys.

The 29-year-old running back is a Texas native and obviously has a desire to return home to finish his career. Peterson and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have already discussed the superstar coming to Dallas at some point in his career.

With the Vikings still in damage control after dealing with Peterson’s issues off the field, it would seem like an ideal situation to simply trade the veteran back. Although it may be the smarter move to part ways, Minnesota appears reluctant to do so, especially if it means trading him to the Cowboys, via Brandon Schlager of Sporting News:

The report said that Peterson has spoken with Vikings general manager Rick Spielman to request a trade. Despite that, Spielman and other team officials will not entertain the idea of dealing Peterson to any team, “especially not to the Cowboys,” per the report.

The Cowboys are in a tough situation right now with their star running back DeMarco Murray. The team might not be able to bring him back next season and if they do, Murray might have a decreased role, according to Dan Hanzus of NFL.com:

DeMarco Murray might not be back with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015. If he returns, expect his workload to be relaxed.

With the Cowboys potentially on the lookout for Murray’s replacement, Peterson might be the ideal candidate. If the relationship with the Vikings can’t be repaired and Murray ends up moving on as a free agent, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Peterson land in Dallas.

As of right now, the Cowboys have 15/1 odds to win the Super Bowl next season while the Vikings are sitting at 65/1, according to Sportsbook.ag. If either back ends up elsewhere or trading places, the odds will almost certainly change.
