Brian Flores admits ‘trust was lost’ after Dolphins owner offered $100k per loss

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has taken a firm stance against the NFL after filing a lawsuit against the league, the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, and New York Giants.

Flores has come out with strong allegations that include racial discrimination and unethical practices. During an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up,” he voiced that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,00 for each loss that his team had in 2019 in hopes of securing a higher draft pick.

“That was a conversation about not doing as much as we needed to do in order to win football games,” Flores said Wednesday via ESPN. “Take a flight, go on vacation, I’ll give you $100,000 per loss — those were his exact words. I deal in truth, I tell the players this, as well. I’m gonna give you good news, bad news — but it’s going to be honest.”

“To disrespect the game like that, trust was lost, and there were certainly some strained relationships, and ultimately, I think that was my demise in Miami.”

Flores clearly had no interest in that discussion as his mindset was focused on turning the franchise around. The Dolphins finished with a 5-11 record in the 2019 campaign. They then bounced back with a 10-6 mark in 2020, narrowly missing the playoffs.

Flores’ lawsuit will likely hurt his chances of securing another NFL head coaching gig. However, he’s bringing attention to issues that have long plagued the league. Particularly the NFL’s head coaching race disparity with Mike Tomlin being the only African-American head coach.

His 58-page lawsuit should see more action unfold ahead that could create significant change.
