Broncos newcomer Theo Riddick set to miss 6-8 weeks with shoulder injury

Prior to the start of the preseason, the Denver Broncos signed veteran running back Theo Riddick. It was intended to add depth to their backfield.

It hasn’t taken long for Riddick’s tenure to get off to a bumpy start as he will be off the field for the next several weeks after suffering a shoulder injury in the Broncos’ preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks in Thursday’s loss, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.

The injuries keep coming for the Denver Broncos’ offense as running back Theo Riddick, who was just signed a week ago to be a pass-catching threat out of the backfield, will now miss six to eight weeks with a shoulder injury.

The small fracture in his shoulder is believed to have occurred on an incomplete pass. The incident occurred on a 4th-and-2 with just over two minutes left in the first quarter of the contest. The injury was discovered after further examination back in Denver. As a result, it now leaves the team without a viable threat in the passing game in their backfield.

The Broncos have suck with their plans to lean on second-year running back Phillip Lindsay as their primary factor. Although, it does put some more work on the shoulders of Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker behind him.

Lindsay was a breakout star in his rookie campaign. He rushed for 1,037 yards with nine touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards per career that earned him a Pro Bowl selection. His season was ended prematurely due to a hand injury, but it hasn’t taken away from what appears to be a promising career ahead of him.
