Browns QB Shedeur Sanders ‘not comfortable’ in current situation

As Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders prepares for his second career start, he expressed some uneasiness days ahead of facing the San Francisco 49ers.

Sanders is coming off guiding the Browns to a win over the Las Vegas Raiders, which made him the first rookie quarterback in the last three decades in team history.

“I’m definitely not comfortable, though, so that’s first and foremost that I have another opportunity to go out there,” Sanders said Wednesday via ESPN. “But in life, you got to understand how quickly things come or how long it comes, it could be taken at any point in time.

“So I’m never comfortable in a situation I’m in. I always want to exceed expectations, and I always want to grow in each and every week, I would want to put a better product of myself, be a better version of myself for the team to be out there.”

Sanders may be taking the mental approach of trying to get better with each game he plays in the NFL, but it’s the bigger picture at play for him. This is his chance to showcase to the coaching staff and organization that he can be the quarterback who leads them toward sustained success.

His first start was a mixed bag as he completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Browns will need much more than that from him if they hope to topple the 49ers, who enter Sunday with an 8-4 record.
