Browns send Joe Flacco to Bengals in rare divisional trade
After not seeing much progress from backup quarterback Jake Browning over the last few weeks following Joe Burrow’s injury, the Cincinnati Bengals have decided to make a move to address the quarterback position.
According to ESPN, the Bengals have acquired veteran journeyman Joe Flacco in a deal with the division rival Cleveland Browns.
The Cincinnati Bengals turned to their division rivals for a much-needed solution at quarterback, acquiring Joe Flacco in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Cincinnati also received a sixth-round draft pick while Cleveland landed a fifth-round pick in the trade, which was announced Tuesday.
This was an interesting move, considering teams within the same division in the NFL typically avoid helping their rivals, even if it means sending them a 40-year-old to help with their issues under center.

Although Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has been supportive of Browning since he took over as the starter for Burrow, Cincinnati desperately needed a change. Taylor made the following statement after the deal was done on Tuesday.
“Joe is an experienced quarterback with a history of winning,” Taylor said in a statement released by the team. “He is a leader with a skill set that will fit our personnel well. He is a gifted passer with a strong arm, and we are excited to have him on our team.”
The Bengals may have gotten slightly better at quarterback, but it remains to be seen if Flacco has anything left, as he was recently benched in Cleveland in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel.
