Chargers QB Justin Herbert undergoes hand surgery
Los Angeles Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert underwent surgery to repair a broken left hand.
Herbert has been labeled as day-to-day for the days ahead of Week 14 action against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The injury happened in the first quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders after safety Jeremy Chinn hit him on a scramble. Chinn’s helmet hit his left hand directly, but he remained in the game and threw a touchdown to wide receiver Quentin Johnston on the next play.
Herbert exited the game for nine plays due to getting a hard cast and a glove to his left hand. He completed 15-of-21 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns, an interception, and a 108.5 passer rating in the 31-14 win over the Raiders.
He didn’t practice on Wednesday, but head coach Jim Harbaugh is optimistic about his status against the Eagles.
“He hasn’t missed a beat. Everybody back today, meetings and out on the field for walk-through,” Harbaugh said via Pro Football Talk.
Herbert has put together a productive campaign, ranking eighth with 2,842 passing yards, sixth with 21 touchdown passes, and holds a 94.9 passer rating. He has thrown multiple touchdown passes in three out of the last five games.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles is in the thick of the playoff picture, sitting in the fifth spot behind an 8-4 record. The Chargers have won four out of their last five games.
If Herbert is unable to play, the Chargers will likely turn to Trey Lance to make the start
