Chargers QB Justin Herbert will be in walking boot until Week 1

Chargers QB Justin Herbert will be in a walking boot for the next two weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his right foot.

The injury isn’t expected to impact his availability for the start of the 2024 season. Head coach Jim Harbaugh voiced that there isn’t an update on Herbert’s health status. However, he didn’t express any concern with the situation.

“The preparation, the work continues,” he said via ESPN. He’s not on the field, in practice, but in the meeting room, still in the training environment, and that chemistry, that rapport you build with those position players, with his teammates, that continues.”

The Chargers will monitor the situation closely ahead of the season opener. He may likely sit the entire preseason to avoid a setback or injury before Week 1 action against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Herbert experienced a drop in production last season. He posted 3,134 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns to seven interceptions. As well as that, he had a 64.1 quarterback rating, and a 93.2 passer rating in 13 games. The Chargers fell well short of the playoffs with a 5-12 record, which led to the firing of head coach Brandon Staley.

Los Angeles hopes that the pairing of Herbert and Harbaugh will be the stabilizing factor that pushes the team back toward the playoffs. The Chargers’ success will likely depend on Herbert’s production, as he remains the franchise’s cornerstone.

He is in the second year of his five-year, $262.5 million deal that runs through the 2029 season.
