Chiefs might be an ideal landing spot for Leonard Fournette

Things have quickly unraveled between the Jacksonville Jaguars and star running back Leonard Fournette. It has now reached the point where the franchise is openly attempting to move Fournette this offseason. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, he believes that the Kansas City Chiefs should move to acquire the Pro Bowler.

So which team(s) need a downhill, between-the-tackles runner who can make real contributions in the passing game, and who would set aside any pain-in-the-ass tendencies based on the team and coach he plays for, and the teammates he plays with?

This one is simple: The Chiefs.

The Chiefs have a viable option in the backfield with Damien Williams, but his production doesn’t match what Fournette brings to the table. He has continued his development into an all-around asset out of the backfield.

He’s coming off a strong 2019 season, where he tallied 1,152 rushing yards along with 522 receiving yards. His addition would bring another weapon to their already stacked offense that could alleviate more pressure off star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

It isn’t a dire need from the franchise to upgrade the backfield, but his addition would help increase their chances to repeat as Super Bowl champions. It’s at least worth taking a flyer on to see if Fournette can be a long-term piece of the puzzle.

If not, the team won’t have to commit to him beyond the 2020 season as he’s currently in the final year of his deal. IF that situation in Jacksonville continues to linger on, the Chiefs could be an interesting landing spot.
