Colts focused on NFL Draft rather than Lamar Jackson situation
The Indianapolis Colts are in yet another offseason hoping to secure their future under center.
However, unlike years past, the team has yet to resolve the dilemma before the NFL draft. The Colts are moving toward this year’s draft without clarity and direction.
The situation has become more entangled as star quarterback Lamar Jackson’s uncertain future with the Baltimore Ravens has thrown Indianapolis into the trade rumor mill.

First-year head coach Shane Steichen has shot down that possibility.
“We’re focused on the draft and I’m focused on the guys that are in the building right now,” said Steichen, whose team kicked off its offseason program this week via ESPN. “That’s where we’re at.”
The Colts have routinely been circled as a potential landing spot for Jackson. Their draft assets and quarterback needs make Indianapolis a logical destination. General manager Chris Ballard took that to another level after voicing last month the team would explore the possibility of acquiring the former league MVP.

Indianapolis is floating without any strong sense of direction, pushing forward the narrative that the team will land its next quarterback through the draft. The Colts possess the fourth overall pick. That should put them in a prime position to land one of this year’s top prospects between C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Will Levis or Anthony Richardson.
It’s a change of pace after spending the last couple of years adding veteran quarterbacks through free agency with Philip Rivers in 2021 and Matt Ryan last offseason.
Things may finally change after the 2023 NFL draft with a new franchise cornerstone under center.
