Cowboys don’t have ‘buyers remorse’ about trading for Amari Cooper
Prior to the trade deadline last season, the Dallas Cowboys made the blockbuster move to acquire former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper in exchange for a first-round pick.
It is a move that the team has voiced much pleasure with the trade. It is something that team vice president Stephen Jones has once again voiced no regret in making that move to land Cooper, according to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of The Star-Telegram.
“I don’t think there is any buyers remorse there,†Stephen Jones said at the team’s pre-draft press conference at The Star in Frisco on Tuesday. “I think we are really pleased we made that move. But as Jerry said it’s painful to go through a draft without a No. 1 pick. We have looked at each other before and said we would never do that again. But certainly, after we have gone through the receivers and looked at that. I think we are very happy with where we have ended up in terms of what we could get at our pick in terms of a receiver or any other player in terms of what we ended up with Amari.â€
The addition of Cooper has given the Cowboys a legitimate No.1 receiving threat in the passing game that has effectively filled the role that Dez Bryant once held. This saw him immediately make an impact in that spot as he made 53 catches for 725 receiving yards and six touchdowns in nine games with the team last year.
There is a clear desire to keep him for the long haul with the franchise as one of the cornerstones of their offense. The only question that remains is what type of contract the team will work out with him as there appears to be mutual interest.
In the meantime, it has become quite evident that the Cowboys are completely satisfied with the transaction.
