Cowboys owner Jerry Jones takes credit for odd Trey Lance trade
The Dallas Cowboys are getting a lot of buzz for being one of the best all-around teams heading into the 2023 NFL season, with the team’s defense firing on all cylinders with Micah Parsons and the offense expected to be formidable once again with Dak Prescott under center.
However, the team made an odd move recently, as they made a trade with the San Francisco 49ers to bring in young quarterback Trey Lance. This was a move no one saw coming and was quite perplexing as it didn’t address a need.

This seemed like a move that team owner Jerry Jones would make to make some headlines, and by all accounts, that’s what it was, as he didn’t tell anyone he was making the move, nor did he justify it via Pro Football Talk.
“The way we’re structured gets a lot of criticism. Unquestionably, it does,†Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “But it lets us do a trade like we did the other day on Lance, because I didn’t have to fool around. I can make that trade in five minutes. And the reason I can is I have all the information, had it from when we drafted him, I had information right at my fingertips of what we thought of his play in the last couple of years. I knew what we thought of him. I didn’t have to visit with anybody about what type of player he is. So I was able to make the call. . . . I don’t have to talk to anybody about that.â€
Jones definitely has his own way of doing business, whether that’s good or bad, but not informing your team and coaches is likely an ill-advised decision.
