Cowboys suffer a major blow losing Dak Prescott to hand injury
The Dallas Cowboys fell to a disappointing Week 1 loss at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys’ offense sputtered throughout the contest in the lopsided 19-3 win. The defeat worsened in the fourth quarter after Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott exited the game with a thumb injury.
X-rays following the contest revealed that Prescott suffered a broken right thumb after outside linebacker Shaq Barrett hit his hand on a throw. The 29-year-old stayed in the game for one more play but exited due to the inability to grip the football.

Prescott voiced after the game that he initially thought he jammed the thumb and thought the medical staff on the sideline could stretch out the area. However, it was quickly determined that he needed additional examination.
Prescott voiced optimism stating that the injury could have been worse, but he’s expected to miss six to eight weeks due to hand surgery.
“I was told it was much cleaner than it could have been,” Prescott said after the game while wearing a splint on his right hand via ESPN.
Prescott’s absence is another significant blow to the Cowboys’ offense that looked completely flat against the Buccaneers. The team couldn’t move the ball down the field. Especially due to the lack of game-changing talent at the wide receiver position beyond CeeDee Lamb.

Dallas will turn to backup Cooper Rush to lead the charge in Prescott’s absence. The Cowboys will head into Week 2 action with the daunting task against the defending AFC champion Bengals. Cincinnati is looking to avenge a frustrating opening week loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
