Daniel Jones admits he hasn’t ‘played well enough’ for the Giants
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has struggled to find his way through his first three seasons.
Jones’ inconsistent play has led to uncertainty regarding his long-term future in New York. As he heads into the offseason, Jones admitted that he hasn’t played well enough to garner complete confidence from the franchise.
“I’m certainly the one responsible for how I play and I take that very seriously. I haven’t played well enough. We haven’t won enough games to this point,” Jones said via USAToday.com. “That’s what I am focused on. And making sure I’m improving as a player as we go through this offseason and into next season, so I am able to put this team in a position to win games. I think that’s my focus — to improve every day.
“Right now, we’re in an offseason stage where you’re kind of on your own to do that and to go about that. So that’s what I am focused on.”
Jones hasn’t led the Giants to any success, holding a 12-25 regular-season record while passing for 8,398 yards with 45 touchdowns to 29 interceptions and an 84.3 passer rating.
The Duke product is entering a make-or-break campaign that could be his final shot to prove he can be a viable starting quarterback. The Giants likely won’t pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

New York may also look to bring another quarterback aboard to increase the competition at the position. Nonetheless, Jones is on the hot seat for the 2022 season.
