Dolphins cut veteran RB Raheem Mostert

As the offseason begins, the Miami Dolphins have moved on from running back Raheem Mostert after three seasons.

Mostert is only two campaigns removed from his career-best year, during which he posted 1,012 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, earning him his only Pro Bowl selection. He led the league with 21 total touchdowns in 2023.

However, his production took a step back last season. He recorded 278 rushing yards on 85 carries with two touchdowns, along with 19 receptions for 161 receiving yards in 13 games.

“Looks like my client Raheem Mostert will be playing elsewhere next season,” Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, wrote earlier Friday on X via ESPN. “Very thankful for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and this gives them a chance to get younger and gives him a chance to pursue a ring elsewhere.”

Mostert should have an opportunity to latch on elsewhere to provide depth to the backfield. He’s a proven factor with playoff experience, posting 336 rushing yards and five touchdowns in three games in the San Francisco 49ers’ run to the Super Bowl in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins are moving forward with De’Von Achane and 2024 fourth-round selection Jaylen Wright leading the charge. Achane was the primary contributor last season, recording 907 rushing yards and six touchdowns, along with 78 receptions for 592 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Achane has proven to be a dual-threat factor that the Dolphins can rely upon to lead the backfield. He is heading into the third year of his four-year, $5.4 million rookie deal.
