Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel reacts to Tua Tagovailoa’s comments
After the Miami Dolphins’ Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa voiced strong comments calling out his team.
Tagovailoa pinpointed tardiness and attendance at team-mandated meetings while also discussing players-only meetings.
Head coach Mike McDaniel responded by stating that his quarterback’s remarks were “misguided.”
“You guys caught me before I heard them [yesterday],” McDaniel said via ESPN. “I think regardless of intent and what was on Tua’s mind after a loss, as the franchise quarterback, that’s not the forum to displace that. I think he knows that. Now, I do honestly believe there was no ill intention, but you’re talking about, I think, a misguided representation of player-orchestrated film sessions.
“The bottom line is no one’s going to be happy and [people] always are looking for reasons for failure to succeed. So you’re trying to look for reasons that you can attribute to losses, and heavy is the crown of being a franchise quarterback.”
The 2025 season has quickly gotten out of hand for the Dolphins, as they have fallen to 1-5 through the first six games. Miami ranks 18th in scoring with 18.8 points per game, while sitting 29th with 29.0 points allowed per game.

The Dolphins appear headed toward missing the playoffs for the second straight year, which could put McDaniel’s coaching status in jeopardy.
Tagovailoa’s comments only underline the internal dysfunction that has developed within the organization. Things could quickly spiral into a disastrous situation, leading to significant offseason change beyond just the coaching staff.
