Doug Pederson: Eagles Committed to Quarterback Carson Wentz

Despite success in the late-season the last two years by Nick Foles, the Philadelphia Eagles will stick with Carson Wentz as their No. 1 quarterback.

On Tuesday, head coach Doug Pederson and head of football operations Howie Roseman held a joint news conference. Pederson said that Wentz is the Eagles quarterback going forward.

Pederson added regarding Foles, the team would love to have every player back across the roster. Although it is not about just one guy, but a team. According to Pederson, the organization will do what is best for the team.

This past December Foles, the Super Bowl MVP, stepped in once again for Wentz when the QB got injured. He helped lead the Eagles to a postseason berth with three consecutive wins to end the regular season.

The Eagles then defeated the Chicago Bears on the road at Soldier Field in the wildcard round before losing to the New Orleans Saints Sunday in the divisional round.

Pederson insisted that the Eagles would love to keep Foles. However no discussions have taken place between the team and Foles as of yet about his future as an Eagle.

Foles, who is 30, wants to start and could receive a sizeable pay increase as a free agent, which makes it most likely he will be wearing another uniform in 2019.

Philadelphia has kept their decision that Wentz, who is 26, is their quarterback. In 2017, he was the favorite to win the MVP before hurting his knee and this just ended season threw for more than 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns with 7 interceptions in 11 games.

Wentz said the stress fracture in his back that sidelined him late this season should not be a recurring issue and he hopes to be with teammates during offseason training that starts in April.

Several teams would likely be interested in signing Foles to be their starting quarterback as he has the experience and talent to lead a team to the postseason and the Super Bowl evidenced by the Eagles win in Super Bowl LII with Foles at the helm.
