Doug Pederson takes blame for Jaguars’ struggles
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ disastrous season took another discouraging turn after suffering a blowout loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 11 action.
The defeat dropped the Jaguars to a 2-9 record, pushing them further down the standings in what has become a season to forget. Head coach Doug Pederson took the blame in stride for his team’s lackluster play in 2024.
“You’ve got to be really, really careful when you start pointing fingers at certain people,” Pederson said Monday via ESPN. “It’s a dangerous thing and I’m not going to do that.
“As a head coach in this league that’s going through what we’re going through, you’re pointing a finger and if it’s got to be pointed, it needs to be pointed at me. Start with me.”
Jacksonville is headed toward another campaign missing the playoffs, but there will likely be a significant change on the horizon as a shift in culture and coaching personnel looks to be needed.

The previous three games have been the most telling of the direction of the franchise. Over that stretch, Jacksonville has given up 1,494 total offensive yards to the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and Lions, which is the most allowed in a three-game span in team history.
Meanwhile, their 528 total offensive yards are the fewest over that span in franchise history. The writing is on the wall for Pederson as the Jaguars march their way through the rest of the 2024 season.
“Where we are and still six games to go, I think it’s time to just hit the reset button and just sort of rewind, kind of get fresh again, coaches and players,” Pederson said. “And the coaches need to — this is what I challenged them to this week — we’ve got to go back and we’ve got to look at everything from a schematic standpoint, player standpoint, personnel standpoint, all that kind of stuff this week.”
