Eli Manning says ‘got to see what happens’ regarding returning to Giants
The New York Giants finished the 2017 NFL season with a disappointing record of 3-13 and a lot of questions surrounding the future of the franchise. One of those pressing questions is what the team will choose to do with quarterback Eli Manning.
The veteran quarterback addressed his future with the team after beating the division rival Washington Redskins in their season finale. Manning wants to return to the only team he’s played for in the NFL but admits it is a wait-and-see situation, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
“Well, I think we’ve just got to see what happens,” said Manning, who turns 37 this week. “So, again, when we talk — I always think the talks in person are more important than what’s said in the media. So, we’ll have a discussion and I look forward to that.”
Although Manning clearly wants to return to New York and the team may very well be open to that prospect, the Giants will have the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft with UCLA’s Josh Rosen openly expressing his desire to play for the storied franchise. Rosen could become Manning’s successor next season or in the years to come with Odell Beckham Jr. being the player the team builds around for the time being.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the organization, New York is in a good position to build for the future with or without Manning in the fold after this season.
With so much potential change in New York, it’ll be interesting to see what the odds for the team to win the Super Bowl or at least make it to the postseason will be once the dust settles following any offseason moves.
