Eric Weddle surprisingly comes out of retirement to sign with Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are heading into the playoffs, having won the NFC West for the third time under head coach Sean McVay.
However, the Rams are going into Monday night’s wildcard matchup against the Arizona Cardinals a bit battered in the secondary. Defensive back Jordan Fuller is out due to a season-ending ankle injury.
It’s a significant blow to the Rams defense as Fuller has become a key part of the unit. According to ESPN, it’s led the franchise to pull two-time Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle out of retirement.

Safety Eric Weddle has come out of retirement and signed with the Los Angeles Rams for the playoffs after the season-ending injury to Jordan Fuller.
Weddle last played with Los Angeles during the 2019 season, where he started all 16 games. He was a team captain and the defensive signal-caller. His return brings a veteran presence to the secondary. Although, there are questions concerning what he can bring to the table after having not played in two regular seasons.
His play will be pivotal as the Rams may also be without their other standout safety Taylor Rapp, who is in the concussion protocol. Meanwhile, cornerback Darious Williams is dealing with a shoulder injury. It will be a race against time to return form the issue he suffered in the season finale loss against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Rams split the two regular-season meetings with the Cardinals. Arizona won the matchup at SoFi Stadium in a convincing fashion 37-20. Meanwhile, Los Angeles took the second game 30-23 despite their roster being ravaged by COVID-19 related issues.
