Former Saints QB Derek Carr ‘very serious’ about unretiring
Former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr stirred the rumor mill last week by airing his potential desire to make an NFL comeback.
It has led the conversation toward teams around the league believing that Carr is serious about returning to the field.
“In talking to teams in the QB market, there’s a strong belief former Saints QB Derek Carr is very serious about unretiring and returning to the NFL in 2026,” NFL reporter Jordan Schulz wrote on X.
Carr stepped into retirement last offseason due to a labral tear in his shoulder and damage to his rotator cuff. The 34-year-old is on the Saints’ reserve-retired list and remains under contract, meaning any team interested in his services would have to work out a trade.
Meanwhile, it’s also being reported that there isn’t an active market for his services at this point in the offseason, but that could pick up after free agency and possibly following the draft next month.

Carr played in 10 games in the 2024 season, posting 2,145 passing yards with 15 touchdown passes and five interceptions, a 101.0 passer rating, and a 67.7 completion rate.
The conversation about a comeback began recently after his comments on the “Home Grown with Derek and David Carr” podcast, which he and his brother host.
“Would I do it? Yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not,” Carr said. “I’d have to be healthy, and I’d want a chance to win a Super Bowl. And obviously, that’s a tough thing to find. That’s hard to do. That’s not easy.”
There is plenty of time for things to heat up with possible landing spots if Carr is truly serious about playing again.
