Giants HC John Harbaugh Opens Up About Malik Nabers’ Tough Road Back

It’s been more than seven months since New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers tore his ACL, but there remains uncertainty about his return.

Head coach John Harbaugh on Thursday underscored the complexity of Nabers’ recovery from the injury, noting that the Giants have been patiently working with him through the process.

“He’s in the middle of it. It’s such a hard thing. It’s an ACL, and whatever else he had in that knee,” coach John Harbaugh said after his team’s third organized team activity practice via ESPN. “Not a simple knee [injury], you know? So, um, he’s in the slog of it, the grind of it, I would say. So, he’s fighting through it, and he’s here every day working hard at it.

“Just impossible to predict. I mean, the goal is to start the season and get out there sometime in training camp. That’d be the goal, and we’ll see what happens.”

Since the injury, Nabers has undergone two surgeries to repair the damage. He initially had an operation that included a full meniscus repair several weeks after the tear in his right knee occurred.

That was followed by a second required surgery recently that removed the scar tissue that was causing stiffness. Even with that, the Giants are optimistic that Nabers will be able to return for Week 1 action on the “Sunday Night Football” game on Sept. 13 at home against the Dallas Cowboys.

There is still plenty of time until then for the star wideout to prove he will be full tilt for the season opener.
