Giants make decision on Russell Wilson for Week 2
The New York Giants are 0-1 heading into Week 2, with the team not playing well in the season-opening loss to the division rival Washington Commanders.
The Giants’ offense was only able to score six points against the Commanders, as the team failed to reach the end zone, which didn’t look great for veteran quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson threw the football 37 times, completing only 17 of those passes for 168 yards and no touchdowns. Obviously, that’s not the kind of performance the Giants want out of their new starting quarterback, so the controversy and questions begin, with head coach Brian Daboll sticking by the veteran rather than reverting to rookie Jaxson Dart, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
Russell Wilson will remain the New York Giants’ starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, coach Brian Daboll said Monday.
“No,” Daboll said. “Russ will be the starter.”
Daboll went a bit more in-depth about how he feels about Wilson being his starting quarterback moving forward.
“I have confidence in Russ, and we’re doing everything we can do every week to develop Jaxson,” Daboll said. “[Dart] spends a lot of time in the building, a lot of time after practice going through things he has to go through to be called upon and be ready to go.
“That is what we’ll continue to do.”
It seems like the writing is on the wall in New York that Dart will eventually be the starter, perhaps sooner rather than later.
However, it’s impossible to predict when that will actually happen. Daboll doesn’t seem to be in a rush to start his rookie quarterback, but that could change if the Giants lose in a convincing fashion against the Cowboys.
