Giants sign QB Jameis Winston to short-term deal
Quarterback Jameis Winston has found his next NFL home after agreeing to a two-year, $8 million deal with the New York Giants.
The move comes a few weeks following gauged interest in Matthew Stafford before he chose to return to the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants also entertained the idea of pursuing four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers.
The team also held visits last week with Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco before adding Winston.
Winston steps into the situation as the possible starter, depending on New York’s draft plans in the coming weeks. The Giants are expected to address the quarterback position after co-owner John Mara stated earlier this year that finding the team’s future under center was the No.1 priority this offseason.
New York currently only has Winston and Tommy DeVito as their quarterback options ahead of the 2025 season. The Giants currently hold the third overall pick and should be in prime position to add a promising young quarterback.
Winston has proven to be a viable starting quarterback over the last few seasons, especially last year after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon.

However, he did experience inconsistent performance over his seven starts before his Week 16 benching. He threw eight interceptions over a three-game span, and he finished the season with 2,121 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Over his first 10 seasons, he recorded 24,225 passing yards, 154 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions, and a 61.2 percent completion rate in 105 career games with 87 starts.
