Jets HC Aaron Glenn shares thoughts on Justin Fields’ struggles

As the New York Jets flounder toward a disappointing 2025 season, much scrutiny and criticism have come toward quarterback Justin Fields.

The Ohio State product has struggled mightily in his first campaign with New York, seeing the team drop its first six straight games before Week 7 action against the Carolina Panthers.

Head coach Aaron Glenn brashly defended his quarterback’s style of play by looping in league MVPs Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson into the conversation.

“I think everybody tends to see who those guys are and understand that, and for some reason they don’t understand Justin,” Glenn said via ESPN.

Over the last two weeks, Fields has been a complete non-factor passing the ball, throwing for fewer than 50 yards and no touchdowns in each game. Over his first six games, he has totaled 845 passing yards with four touchdowns to no interceptions, but has 257 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

His lackluster play as a passer has built negative chatter around his long-term future with the Jets. Despite all that, Glenn remains headstrong in his belief that Fields can turn it around.

“I know that’s a huge topic that everyone talks about, but there’s a lot that goes into that,” he said of the release time. “When you look at the time he gets the ball out, some of those have been his best games, when he’s holding the ball three seconds or whatnot. That’s who he is.”

If the Jets continue to stumble, it will likely spell a quarterback change next offseason.
