Jets Make it Close in Thursday Night Showdown
Thursday night of the start of week 7 featured a showdown of the New York Jets and New England Patriots. The Jets went into the game 1-5, while the Patriots have temporarily hushed their critics, turning their season around to 4-2 and leading the AFC East. The Patriots were a 10.5 favorite going into the game but the Jets were ready to put up a fight.
The Patriots won 27-25 in the final minutes. At 1:16Â left in the game the Jets got the ball back following a Patriots punt and started the final drive of the game on their own 12 yard line. Chris Jones blocked Nick Folk’s 58-yard field goal attempt as the time expired.
The Jets were able to keep the game close the entire game but ultimately struggled on offense, unable to capitalize on great scoring opportunities. This season, the Jets have should touchdowns on just 39 percent of the times that they are inside of the 20. It took them 18 plays inside of the Patriots 30-yard line to finally be able to score.
Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes, completing 20 of 37 passes for a total of 267 yards and threw no interceptions.
The time of possession in the first half was very dominated by the Jets, 22:03Â to the Patriots 7:57Â but the score was in the Patriots favor, 17-12 going into halftime.
Regardless of the predictions, spread and final outcome of the game, the Jets gave the Patriots a tough challenge and it was their second straight game that they didn’t go down without a great fight. The Jets may only have one win this season, but the team can celebrate some really great moments.
What the future holds for the staff and players, who knows, but there are still a lot of games left to be played.
