Justin Fields believes he’s shown the Steelers what he can do
As the 2024 season opener inches closer, the focus around the Pittsburgh Steelers sits on the team’s starting quarterback situation.
Much of which has seen Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin adamant that former Pro Bowler Russell Wilson will be the starter. In light of that, Justin Fields voiced that he has shown his full range of skills through the first two weeks of the preseason and training camp.

“I think I’ve shown what I can do,” Fields said Thursday via ESPN. “I think the time that I did have with the [first team] practicing in training camp, I think thatwent well. I think we grew a lot each and every day, but at the end of the day, it’s not up to me.
“I mean, I’m just going to come in here every day, each and every day, the same person, being a leader for this team and work my butt off, and everything else will be handled.”

Fields possesses a unique skill set that allows him to impact the game with his legs as a runner, but his passing has been the center of the conversation. It’s what has held him back from truly separating toward becoming a legitimate franchise cornerstone during his time with the Chicago Bears.
Tomlin may be steadfast with Wilson as the starter, but there is room for Fields to make a strong case to vie for that vaunted spot. It is Wilson’s to lose, which places more pressure on him to excel from the start of the 2024 season.
