Justin Fields, Ryan Tannehill both ruled out for Week 8 action

The Chicago Bears are heading into the Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers shorthanded under center again with quarterback Justin Fields sidelined.

Fields missed last week’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a thumb injury. Backup Tyson Bagent picked up the slack in his place, leading the Bears to a comfortable 30-12 home win.

Bagent completed 21-of-29 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown. He guided the team to three touchdown drives while the Bears had 323 total offensive yards, 23 first downs, converted 8-of-13 third downs, and scored on all three red zone trips.

Bagent numbers were not flashy. However, he became the first Bears quarterback to win in their debut since Craig Krenzel in 2004.

Chicago will need him to provide stable play against a Chargers team looking to snap a two-game skid. The Bears will have to deal with Los Angeles’ stellar pass rush led by Pro Bowlers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.

Mack is among the league leaders with seven sacks, which features six in the win over the Raiders.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans will turn to rookie Will Levis and Malik Willis in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, with starter Ryan Tannehill sidelined due to an ankle injury.

Head coach Mike Vrabel voiced that the plan remains to play both Levis and Willis in shared duty against the Falcons.

“Still the same plan,” Vrabel said Friday via ESPN. “I’m excited to watch both of those guys play. They’ve worked hard.”

The Titans are looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
