Mac Jones still uncertain about his return to the field for the Patriots
The New England Patriots are coming off a disappointing Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
The defeat was further compounded by quarterback Mac Jones suffering a severe high ankle sprain that will sideline him for multiple weeks. Jones and the Patriots haven’t moved toward surgery, and he is still weighing his options.
The Pro Bowl quarterback is taking the optimistic approach while embracing taking the recovery process methodically.
“I’m just going to take it day by day, get my treatment and do what I do. Just see how I feel,” he said via ESPN. “If you have any more of those type questions, talk to Coach [Bill] Belichick. I think he likes those questions.”
Jones and the Patriots may still be weighing their options, but the only thing that is clear is that the Alabama product will be sidelined for an extended period. All that likely puts backup Brian Hoyer into the spotlight as the starter.
Hoyer holds plenty of experience playing in the team’s offensive scheme that is altered a bit with Matt Patricia calling plays. The Patriots hold a difficult challenge ahead in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers, who are coming off an impressive win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New England will have their hands full defensive against the reigning back-to-back league MVP Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, Hoyer will have to hold his own by leading the offense forward to match Rodgers.
The next few weeks will be telling of how the Patriots’ 2022 campaign will unfold.
