Matt Ryan still has enough to power Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are trying to get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2017, and they’ll need Matt Ryan’s best to do it.

Matt Ryan doesn’t have forever. Perhaps this is the start of a great closing chapter.

Ryan, 36, has spent 13 years with the Atlanta Falcons. Entering his 14th campaign, the potential Hall of Fame quarterback is hoping to take a talented offense with an offensive-minded, first-time head coach back to the postseason. And make no mistake: if the Falcons get to the playoffs, Ryan will be the driving force behind the run.

Additionally, Ryan is looking at a pivotal year from a personal standpoint. With two years remaining on his current contract, the Falcons could move off the deal if motivated enough. Despite a $40.5 million dead cap hit in 2022, the team could split that figure across two seasons by releasing or trading Ryan post-June 1.

On Tuesday, Ryan talked about his career and what could be in store over the next few years, per ESPN:

“In one respect you understand that if you play well for long enough, these are the conversations that are going to come up. I understand that I’m not going to play forever, but I also have the mindset that I’m still playing really well and have a lot of good football in front of me.”
