Mike McCarthy comments on job status with Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have not lived up to expectations this season, with the team coming off its worst loss of the 2024 NFL season, falling to Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, 47-9.
The loss to the Lions was telling, as it shows that this Cowboys team might be unable to compete with the best of the best in the NFC. Obviously, with the Cowboys being such a high-profile team in the NFL with an avid fanbase, head coach Mike McCarthy came under fire once again for the team’s shortcomings on the football field.

McCarthy has seemingly been on the hot seat for years in Dallas, but longtime team owner Jerry Jones has stuck by him. McCarthy spoke about the loss on Sunday and being motivated to bounce back via ESPN.
“At the end of the day if we totally don’t believe it’s about us, it’ll always be about us and play to who we are, what we do, how we do it, then we’re not going to get to where we want to go,” McCarthy said. “And I believe we will. I think this is an opportunity that we relish. I know I relish it. And I think they do too.”
McCarthy knows that people are speculating about his job status and was asked about all the talk about his position in Dallas via ESPN.
“I think it’s just part of the business,” McCarthy said when asked how he tunes out the noise regarding his job security. “When people ask me about really anything with the team, part of working here, it’s part of the business.”
Fortunately for McCarthy, star quarterback Dak Prescott seems to be backing him, which the head coach doesn’t take for granted and appreciates.
“I think it shows how he feels and I think it speaks to our relationship,” McCarthy said. “But yeah, I mean, support is a nice thing.”
Only time will tell what the future holds for McCarthy, but if he doesn’t turn things around this season, his days in Dallas might be numbered.
