Ndamukong Suh announces retirement from the NFL

The prestigious NFL career of defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh has officially come to an end. The 38-year-old announced his decision to walk away from the game of football over the weekend, according to ESPN.

Ndamukong Suh announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday, issuing a heartfelt statement on the first anniversary of his father’s death.

It appears that his late father played a significant role in his decision to retire 15 years after being drafted No. 2 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He announced his retirement on the first anniversary of his father’s passing, via ESPN.

“It’s time to let football go,” he recalled his father saying. “You’ve done everything you set out to do. Now it’s time for the next chapter.”

“That conversation stayed with me,” Suh posted in his statement on social media. “So today, one year later, I’m honoring that wish.

“I’m officially retiring from the NFL.”

Suh left a significant impact on the game, as he was one of the best defensive linemen in the league during his prime, while also being somewhat of a menace on the field due to his aggressive play, which some would define as dirty tactics.

He played for five different teams during his NFL career, stints with the Lions, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles.

“I left it all on the field, and now I’m stepping away with peace and gratitude,” he said.

“Because I’ve been preparing for this moment for years. Football was my passion, but it was never my endgame.”

Suh won a Super Bowl playing with legendary quarterback Tom Brady in 2021 and won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year with the Lions in 2010. He was also named an All-Pro five times and made the Pro Bowl five times throughout his career.
