New York Jets might have their best shot to win this week
If the New York Jets are going to win a game this season, their best shot could be on Monday against the New England Patriots.
This could be Last Chance Saloon for the New York Jets.
At 0-8, it’s fair to point out a few things. The Jets are terrible and could very well go 0-16, becoming the third team to ever do so in NFL history. However, they’re only halfway through the campaign and odds are heavily tilted for New York stumbling into at least one victory.
If you’re inclined to believe the latter, this week might be the moment. The Jets are hosting the New England Patriots on Monday night, and while over the past 20 years that would sound like lunacy, New England is far from the same team. The Patriots are 2-5 and without receivers Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry, and have 17 other players listed as questionable.

However, New York will be without starting quarterback SAM DARNOLD. Darnold, who has practiced all week, won’t go as he deals with a painful shoulder injury, per ESPN:
“Obviously, he was going to do everything he could to go in this game,” New York head coach Adam Gase said. “As practice went on [Friday], he felt like there were some throws he wasn’t comfortable with. When he threw them, he didn’t feel like he got the right velocity that he wanted on the ball.”

With Darnold out, Joe Flacco is in. Considering Darnold hasn’t been any better than Flacco this season — the latter has started two games in 2020 — it’s not a major disadvantage for the Jets.
With nothing to lose, Gase needs to ditch his ultra-conservative nature and attack a vulnerable New England team. The Patriots, typically fighting for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, might get caught napping even with Bill Belichick on the sideline.
After eight humbling, embarrassing weeks, the Jets have another opportunity to regain a shred of dignity. We’ll see if they can do it in primetime against a long-time foe.
