NFC East: Football’s Best Race Comes Down to the Finish
The Washington Redskins behind rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III find themselves tied for first place in the NFC East with two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning and the Dallas Cowboys with veteran quarterback Tony Romo. Nobody would have seen this coming. Not too many people would even have seen it coming as late as Thanksgiving. But the Redskins went to Dallas on their traditional Thanksgiving Day and beat the Cowboys 38-31. The Game was the day Robert Griffin became a star and the Redskins playoff contenders. So far the Skins have not wilted, even though another rookie quarterback, Kirk Cousins, had to win a couple of games for them while Griffin went down with a sprained knee. Griffin makes his return today for the Redskins.
The Giants are in a familiar position. They are wilting with two games to go. They have lost four of the last six games and last week fell flat on their faces in a 34-0 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. But this is exactly the same place they were in a year ago, when they went on to win the Super Bowl. They beat the New York Jets this week last year and never lost again. So it might be a mistake to count them out this year.
Oddsmaker has the lines on this week’s games:
New Orleans at Dallas- New Orleans is +2.5 -115 or +120. The Cowboys are -2.5 or -105. Over/under is 53. This game could not be much bigger for the Cowboys. In so many of these in recent years, they have folded. But this team has a different look about them. We are going with the Cowboys -2.5 and the under.
Washington at Philadelphia– The Eagles are just sad. Washington is playing great football and now they have a huge game with the Eagles. The Eagles are +7 -120 or +225. The Redskins are -7 even or -265. Over/under is 45.5. We are going to take the Redskins -7 and the over.
New York Giants at Baltimore- The Giants are -3 even or -140. The Ravens are +3 -120 or +120. This game is what amounts to a playoff game for both teams, even though the Ravens are definitely going to the playoffs. A loss though would severely damage their hoped of winning the AFC North and would mean they’ll be on the road. Neither team has been playing well lately, the Ravens have lost three in a row. We are going with the Giants -3 and the under.
