NFL free agency 2019: Best remaining available players

NFL free agency isn’t even a week old, and it already feels over for the most part. The big names are mostly off the board. Le’Veon Bell is now playing for the New York Jets. Nick Foles? He’s the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Landon Collins, well, he calls the nation’s capital home. So on and so forth.

So which players are still out there that could make a reasonable difference? Let’s run down a few of them, in no particular order.

Justin Houston – The Kansas City Chiefs released Justin Houston the day before the legal tampering period began. Houston, 30, remains one of the better pass-rushers in the game, notching nine in the regular season despite missing four games. Then, in the playoffs, Houston totaled two more sacks along with a recovered fumble in a 31-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Houston has injury concerns, but he should be able to land a contract somewhere close to what Brandon Graham received with the Philadelphia Eagles at three years and $40 million.

Ndamukong Suh – Suh is older than Houston at 32 years old, but he’s one of the best veterans available. Such isn’t he player he once was during his prime with the Detroit Lions, but the former No. 2 overall pick can be dominant at times, something he showed for the Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs last season. Against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, Suh lined up all over the defensive line, showcasing a versatility that he doesn’t often get credit for.

Jamie Collins – Another defensive option, but this is a little younger. Collins was released the week before free agency by the Cleveland Browns, but he’s still a solid linebacker who could help a litany of teams. At 29 years old, Collins should be able to find a multi-year deal, should he want to choose that route. It’s also possible that Collins would like yo play on a one-year pact before hitting the market again, hoping for one more large payday.

Jared Cook – Finally, an offensive player makes the list. Cook isn’t going to be an All-Pro, but he could certainly be a nice piece for a contender trying to add a weapon. Last year, Cook was stuck with the Oakland Raiders and Derek Carr, but still managed to put up 68 receptions for 896 yards and six touchdowns. If Cook goes to a team where he’s a secondary option, the numbers may dip, but the value would still be there.
