NFL playoff picture, Week 15: Chiefs, 49ers can clinch

The NFL playoff picture heading into Week 15 is getting wilder by the hour. Here are the games, and teams, to watch this weekend.

It’s that time of year. The NFL playoff picture is in full swing.

Coming into Week 15, only the Philadelphia Eagles have clinched a playoff spot, while all eight of the league’s divisions technically remain up for grabs.

That can change starting on Thursday night, when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Seattle Seahawks. If the Niners win, they sweep the season series from Seattle and clinch the NFC West, earning at least one home game in the NFC playoffs.

On Saturday, we could see another division fall. The Minnesota Vikings have another chance to salt away the NFC North, needing only to beat the lousy Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium to raise the banner. Then, on Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs can win the AFC West by beating the 1-11-1 Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. This could also happen if the Los Angeles Chargers were to lose at home against the Tennessee Titans.

While the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys can’t clinch divisions, they can clinch playing into the postseason by beating the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively. Buffalo is 10-3 and currently the AFC’s top seed, while Dallas, despite having a 10-3 record as well, is looking at the top wild card spot thanks to the 12-1 Eagles.

On the other side of things, the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams are the only two teams that with losses this weekend, will be eliminated from the NFL playoff picture regardless of all other results. The Las Vegas Raiders could be taken out as well, but would need to lose against the New England Patriots, and see a win from either the Dolphins or New York Jets.

Like the Raiders, we could see eliminations of the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts if they lose their respective games, and other outcomes work against them.
