NFL power rankings: Top 5 teams going into November

As the calendar gets ready to turn into November, we look at the NFL power rankings and handicap the top five teams in the league.

5. New York Giants

Even though all of their games have been of the one-score variety, the Giants are 6-1 and first-year head coach Brian Daboll has done a phenomenal job. Once known for throwing killer interceptions, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones only has two interceptions through seven games. If Jones can continue to protect the ball and allow running back Saquon Barkley to drive the offense, New York should make the playoffs for only the second time in the past 10 years.

4. Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota has had some bizarre wins, but in a season where most teams can’t string together more than one win at a shot, the Vikings should be commended for riding a four-game winning streak as they come out of their bye week. Kirk Cousins is largely playing solid football, receiver Justin Jefferson is one of the game’s best and the defense is doing enough. At 5-1, Minnesota leads the NFC North by a robust 2.5 games over both the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.

3. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs traded away star receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason and yet still have the league’s best offense, averaging 31 points per game. Kansas City is 5-2 and although the defense has been inconsistent, this team once again has all the makings of a champion. Patrick Mahomes enters Week 8 leading the NFL in passing yardage, touchdowns and rating, while newcomer JuJu Smith-Schuster and mainstay Travis Kelce are combining to pace fr more than 2,500 receiving yards.

2. Buffalo Bills

Buffalo has been the league’s most overwhelming team to this point, only sliding to No. 2 in the NFL power rankings because of a lone loss to the Miami Dolphins back in Week 3. Buffalo has a few quality wins on the resume as well, having beaten the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium while also earning a comeback 23-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens after trailing by 17 points. If the MVP was handed out now, Josh Allen would have to be the frontrunner.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

If you’re the only undefeated team in the league, you get the top spot. Philadelphia is 6-0 and has upcoming games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans, who combine for three wins this year. Jalen Hurts has been excellent under center both running and throwing, while the defense has forced the most turnovers in football.
