NFL Week 6 schedule: What you need to know
The NFL schedule is packed with good action on Sunday.
Patrick Mahomes is welcoming Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans to Arrowhead. The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams are putting on a showcase for the NFC West. The Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles are battling in a contest which could have huge playoff implications down the line. All that and so much more.
Here is what you should be watching beyond the obvious above.
- The Tennessee Titans are potentially fighting for their season at Denver. And that might be the least of it. Mike Vrabel needs to start seeing some progress or his job could be in jeopardy come season’s end. Meanwhile quarterback Marcus Mariota has yet to make the jump into stardom, and this is his fifth year and the last few months before free agency. If Tennessee goes into the tank, there’s little reason to think we won’t see major changes.
- Develin Hodges will get his first start in the NFL. If that isn’t enough, Hodges will play in primetime for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Los Angeles Chargers. Hodges is an interesting kid, an undrafted free agent out of Samford who was third on the depth chart only a month ago. Now, Hodges is trying to add to the Los Angeles misery. The Chargers were allegedly good, but injuries and poor play have conspired to put water on their campaign thus far. This is a must-win for Philip Rivers and Co.
- Will we get any kind of improved effort from the New York Jets? New York is finally getting quarterback am Darold back into the folks after missing a month with mono. While Darnold was out, the Jets lost all three of their games without him, leaving them the AFC East basement alongside the Miami Dolphins. With the Dallas Cowboys coming to town, New York is a heavy home underdog and rightfully so. If this is a game with 10 minutes left, it’s a moral victory for Gang Green.
- Who wins the tire fire between the Dolphins and Washington Redskins. Both teams are winless and without the good fortune of seeing each other, might stay that way for quite some time. Washington is under new leadership with Bill Callahan taking over for the fired Jay Gruden as head coach. The Dolphins are coming off their bye week and have installed Josh Rosen as the quarterback for the rest of 2019. Whoever wins is officially off 0-16 watch. The loser, though, has the inside track to the top pick in the draft. Winning by losing.
