- The Kansas City Chiefs are no longer the clear top threat to the New England Patriots in the AFC. After losing in consecutive weeks — at home, mind you — to the Houston Texans and IndianapolisColts, the Chiefs have serious concerns. The largest has to be the left ankle of Patrick Mahomes, followed closely by the run defense, the pass rush, the defense in general, the injuries to Eric Fisher and Sammy Watkins, and the defense again.
- Staying in the AFC West, the Los Angeles Chargers are likely sunk. At 2-4 in a weak conference, that might seem like a bit of an overreaction, but look at the facts. The Chargers still have to play all three of their road divisional games, and that doesn’t account for a trip to Mexico to face the Chiefs in Week 11. Additionally, the Chargers still have the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears to play. Good luck finding another seven wins.
- The San Francisco 49ers are for real. After dominating the Los Angeles Rams in a 20-7 win at the L.A. Coliseum on Sunday, there’s little reason to continue doubting San Francisco. The 49ers have a terrific front seven and while Jimmy Garoppolo has been uneven, the Niners are finding creative ways to score behind one of the best coaching staffs in the game.

- The Dallas Cowboys might want to self-scout the first three weeks of the season and try to repeat them. Problem is, the Cowboys can’t force the league to put the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins on the schedule in succession again. After losing 24-22 to the New York Jets on Sunday, Dallas is now 3-3 and in real danger of missing the playoffs.
- Finally, the Tennessee Titans need to make the switch to Ryan Tannehill and mercifully end the Marcus Mariota era. Mariota was hideous in Denver, failing to throw for 70 yards while being intercepted twice in an ugly 16-0 loss to the Broncos. If the Titans are going to find their way out of a 2-4 hole, it begins with significantly better quarterback play. There’s very little chance of such a thing coming from Mariota’s right arm.
