Packers’ Aaron Rodgers says it’s ‘strange’ he hasn’t played Ben Roethlisberger more
Aaron Rodgers has spent his 16-plus NFL seasons all with the Green Bay Packers.
It’s seen him compete against many of the game’s best quarterbacks over his illustrious career. However, what’s largely absent has been games against Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Week 4 matchup against the Steelers will mark the first time Rodgers played the team at Lambeau Field. It’s also been more than 10 years since the quarterbacks have faced off as the last meeting occurred in Super Bowl 45, with the Packers coming out on top 31-25.
Ahead of Sunday’s contest, Rodgers voiced how odd it is to face Roethlisberger in his career sparsely.
“It is strange how that happened, ’13 and ’17 obviously breaking my collarbone and [missing] both of those games,” Rodgers said via ESPN. “I remember the ’09 game very well. We were pretty explosive on offense, hit Greg down the middle for I think it was an 85-yard touchdown, then hit J.J. on a post late in that game to put us ahead, and then Big Ben took them down to beat us there right at the end. That was a good football game.”
Although the Packers play the AFC North every four years, he missed the last two regular-season matchups due to injury. In 2013 he missed the game due to a fractured collarbone and again in 2017 to a second fractured collarbone.
