Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wants to air it out ‘a little bit more’
The Green Bay Packers have moved to a promising start to begin the 2022 season, holding a 3-1 record through the first month.
However, much of the attention has been on the Packers’ offense behind star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay ranks 16th in yards and tied for 18th with 18.8 points per contest.
Rodgers hasn’t put up MVP-type numbers, ranking 19th with a 44.8 quarterback rating, tied for 10th with six touchdown passes, and 18th with 935 passing yards. Much of the attention is on the lack of explosive plays down the field for the Packers offense.
The four-time league MVP voiced a strong desire to push head coach Matt LaFleur toward throwing the ball down the field.
“Hell yeah, of course,” Rodgers said via ESPN. “Matt’s kind of in a grumpy mood right now. When he gets a little bit of rest and will be in a better mood, we’ll talk about airing it out a little bit more.”
There is a notable difference in the Packers’ offensive game plan due to the change in personnel. The team’s top wideout option is Allen Lazard while he’s flanked by plenty of unproven talent around him at the position.

The departures of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling have left a gaping void in the passing game. The Packers have tried to fill that area of the offense, but that has been a significant struggle.
If the Packers hope to take steps toward Super Bowl contention, that will need to be a reliable part of the offense.
