Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers advises Ravens QB Lamar Jackson to ‘slide a little bit’
Heading into Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s second season in the league, there has been plenty of questions concerning his approach to the game.
A great deal of external concern has also emerged around the heavy usage of his legs in the running game that many believe will wear him down or make him more susceptible to injury. That was something that Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers voiced to Jackson after Thursday’s preseason action between their respective teams, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.
“I love watching you play, man,” Rodgers told Jackson. “That was pretty spectacular.”
Rodgers then added, “Have a great season. Slide a little bit.”
The comments from Rodgers come after Jackson’s 18-yard touchdown that was called back after an illegal block in the contest. He has decided to run the ball after the play broke down that saw him decide to take on defenders instead of sliding and avoiding harm’s way.
The fact that Rodgers has now chimed in on this conversation has only further heightened the attention on the topic of discussion on the long-term aspect of the game plan with Jackson. The Ravens along with the former Heisman Trophy award winner, have both voiced comfort with him continuing to utilize his legs in the running game.
At the same time, it has been proven with other athletically gifted running quarterbacks that a heavy reliance on running the ball could lead to health issues. That was certainly the case with Robert Griffin III as injuries have continued to plague him and he hasn’t been able to fulfill his potential. Nonetheless, only time will tell if this plan of attack offensively will be different from Jackson.
