After receiving considerable interest from the Dallas Cowboys to be Tony Romo’s backup, veteran quarterback Nick Foles has decided to go in a different direction. Foles has chosen to sign with an AFC team rather than heading to America’s Team to be in Romo’s insurance policy.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Foles has agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs, via NFL.com:

The Chiefs have agreed to terms with former Rams quarterback Nick Foles, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported, via a source informed of the clubs talking contract with Foles’ representatives. The Cowboys and the Vikings had also extended offers to the former Los Angeles Rams quarterback, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport added.

Foles ending up with the Cowboys seemed to be the ideal situation for the NFL journeyman. Romo has become quite injury prone over the years making the Cowboys desperate for a viable backup after last season’s disastrous finish.

Unfortunately for Dallas, Foles favored the situation in Kansas City with his former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid. It will be a similar situation for Foles in Kansas City in comparison to Dallas with the veteran being a backup on a playoff-caliber team. Foles will slip in behind starter Alex Smith and may see some time if the former number one overall pick struggles next season.

Unlike Romo, Smith tends to stay healthy and on the field every week. Smith has missed only two regular-season games in the three years he’s been with the Chiefs.
