Raiders fire general manager Tom Telesco after one season
Days after the Las Vegas Raiders chose to retain general manager Tom Telesco and fire head coach Antonio Pierce, the franchise has instead decided to clean house.
The Raiders took to social media to announce that the team has moved on from Telesco.
“We appreciate [Telesco’s] efforts in helping build a foundation for the future. We wish Tom and his family all the best,” the team said in a statement via ESPN.
Telesco’s tenure with the Raiders comes to a close after just one season, where the team finished with a 4-13 record. Las Vegas was marred by injuries under center and inconsistent performances.
His brief stint was highlighted by the franchise’s shortcomings as the team failed to truly address their quarterback issues. Last offseason, the team signed Gardner Minshew to a two-year, $15 million deal, which quickly became a troublesome move as he was given the reigns as the starter.
It took five games before Minshew was benched in favor of Aidan O’Connell due to inconsistent performance. Following that move, Both O’Connell and Minshew struggled with injuries that led the team down the path of quickly falling out of playoff contention.
The Raiders enter the offseason with plenty of questions about the future of the franchise after letting go of both Pierce and Telesco mere days apart.
