Raiders hire Tom Telesco to replace Dave Ziegler as GM
The Las Vegas Raiders continued their busy offseason by hiring former Los Angeles Chargers general Tom Telesco to fill that position.
Telesco had held that role with the Chargers since 2013 before he was let go with then-head coach Brandon Staley back on Dec. 14.
The Raiders hoping that Telesco can help the team take the next step after he helped put together talented rosters with the Chargers. Under his watch, he drafted the likes of wide reiver Keenan Allen, defensive end Joey Bosa, safety Derwin James Jr., running back Melvin Gordon III, and quarterback Justin Herbert.
During Telesco’s tenure, the Chargers held an 84-92 record along with a 2-3 mark over three playoff appearances.
He marks the fifth general manager the Raiders have had since Mark Davis took over control of the team after his father Al Davis’ passing in 2011.
Telesco will be in charge of a few critical decisions this upcoming offseason headlined by their 13th overall pick in the first round of this year’s draft and whether to bring back Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs. He’s coming off posting career lows with 805 rushing yards, 3.5 yards per carry, and six touchdowns.

The move to bring Telesco aboard comes shortly after Las Vegas hired Antonio Pierce as the next head coach. Pierce showcased his leadership ability and influence over the team nearly pushing them into playoff contention.
The Raiders are hoping that the change in regime leads to the team taking the next step toward a postseason berth.
