Raiders part ways with head coach Pete Carroll
The Las Vegas Raiders are moving in another direction with head coach Pete Carroll after just one season.
In his lone campaign at the helm, the Raiders finished with a 3-14 record, which put the franchise with the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Carroll had inked a three-year deal with a fourth-year option last offseason after spending a year away from football following his exit from the Seattle Seahawks after a 14-year tenure.
Las Vegas will now be searching for its sixth head coach since 2021, an effort led by team owner Mark Davis, minority owner Tom Brady, and general manager John Spytek.
“We’re looking for someone to build this the right way and not think we’ve got to produce 10 wins or whatever next year,” Spytek said via ESPN. “It’d be great to do, when we see teams like the Patriots, [Jaguars] and Bears flip it. I’ve always had a thought that you’re never as good in this league as you think you are, and you’re never as far away as you think you are. And we’re just going to go open-minded.”
The Raiders are hoping a fresh start can finally propel them back toward playoff contention and sustainable success. It’s a unique position, as Las Vegas will also likely head in another direction under center after a disastrous first season with former Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith.

The Raiders appear headed toward taking a quarterback with their first overall pick in this year’s draft, likely choosing between Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Oregon’s Dante Moore.
