Rams detail plan for Todd Gurley in the 2020 NFL season
The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a tough 2019 campaign in which they failed to bounce back from a Super Bowl loss to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.
Along with the Rams struggling to get back to form as a contender in 2019, the future of star running back Todd Gurley was put into question. Gurley’s knee ailment seems to be more serious than expected and as a result, his carries and time on the field need to be managed moving forward. Head coach Sean McVay talked about how they’ll use Gurley during the 2020 NFL season, via Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire.
“We’re working through that right now. It’s no different than, an Andrew Whitworth has a different plan of approach. You want to be consistent, but I think certain guys – just understanding the workload that their specific position entails or what is the best way to have a long-term solution for getting through the entire season,†McVay said. “We’ve been consistent with that with Todd Gurley from when I first got here. I think it was just something that was talked about more because he missed a couple games toward the latter half of the ’18 season, but those are things that you want to be able to be specific with each player while still being consistent in the big picture, and those are things that as we get closer to those dates we’ll discuss a little bit more.â€
It’ll be interesting to see how Gurley will play a role on this team moving forward and how much football he may have left in him.
Next season, the Rams will be out to prove they can still compete with the best of the best in the NFC, especially with their division being arguably the best in football. The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks are forces to be reckoned with once again in the NFC West while Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals are also on the rise.
