Rams star Puka Nacua knows when he wants to retire

After only two NFL seasons, Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Puka Nacua already has his retirement set.

During an interview on “Join the Lobby” podcast, Nacua voiced that he wants to retire by age 30.

“I know I want to retire at the age of 30,” Nacua said via ESPN. “I’m 23 right now, I’m going into Year 3 — it wouldn’t even be 10 years. It’d be maybe seven or eight. I think of Aaron Donald, to go out at the top, I think it would be super cool.”

Donald retired after 10 seasons, in which he put together a first-ballot Hall of Fame career behind three Defensive Player of the Year awards, 10 Pro Bowl selections, eight First-Team All-Pro nods, and won a Super Bowl.

Donald could have extended his career, but chose to step away while still performing at an elite level. Nacua discussed that he wants to have a big family, and he voiced that he doesn’t want to have lingering health issues impacting his life after football.

“The injuries are something you can’t control [as] part of the game, so you never know,” Nacua said. “Hopefully, the rest of the career can go healthy, but you have shoulder surgery, you have knee surgery, you have ankle. By the time my kids could be 18, I could be barely walking if you play the game and sustain all the injuries and stuff like that, but I want to retire early.”

Things could certainly change from now until then, but it’s clear that Nacua has set out a timeline for his NFL future ahead.
