Rams won’t rush contract extension with QB Jared Goff
The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to go all-in with star quarterback Carson Wentz. The team and the up-and-coming gunslinger have agreed to a four-year contract extension making him the latest quarterback to cash while also putting pressure on other teams like the Los Angeles Rams to do the same.
Jared Goff helped lead the Rams to the Super Bowl last season and has become a formidable player under center for Los Angeles. However, there are still doubts about whether he’s the long-term option at the position, but the team wants to ink him to an extension which won’t be rushed, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.
The Rams intend to extend the contract of quarterback Jared Goff.
But they won’t be rushed into a deal just because the Philadelphia Eagles opted to sign quarterback Carson Wentz, who was selected second behind Goff in the 2016 NFL draft. Wentz this week agreed to a four-year, $128 million extension with Philly, with an NFL-record $107.9 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
With Sean McVay at the helm and solid squad on both sides of the football, the Rams are expected to be a legitimate Super Bowl title contender once again in 2019. Although the team will likely contend next season, Goff will still be under pressure to prove himself to be the right player to lead the offense.
As of right now, Goff seems to be the franchise quarterback for the Rams, but that could change if he fails to live up to expectations in 2019.
