Ravens QB Lamar Jackson ready for ‘heavyweight fight’ with Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes
Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson is a win away from taking the franchise back to the Super Bowl in more than a decade.
Standing in the way on that path is the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes.
In the days ahead of their fifth-ever playoff meeting, Jackson voiced his expectation for an intense battle in the AFC Championship Game.
“He’s a great quarterback. [He’s] definitely a Hall of Famer. It’s a no-brainer,” Jackson said via ESPN. “I believe [it’s] just two greats — up-and-coming greats — just going toe-to-toe, like a heavyweight fight.”
Mahomes has beaten Jackson in three of their previous four meetings, which is the most losses the Ravens quarterback has suffered against any quarterback.

The marquee matchup goes well beyond having two of the league’s best players squaring off against each other. It will be the first time that two regular-season MVPs under the age of 30 will face off in the playoffs.
With that stage set, Jackson is ready to dethrone Mahomes and the Chiefs to get a chance to compete for the ultimate prize.
“To be a champion, you’ve got to go through a champion,” Jackson said. “So, that’s pretty much the mindset.”
Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a pair of wins, first handling the Miami Dolphins 26-7 in the wildcard round and then edging past the Buffalo Bills 27-24 in the divisional round.
Meanwhile, Jackson guided the Ravens comfortably over the Houston Texans 34-10 in the divisional round.
